I have this curiosity about how a single show winds up in the middle of the road in the most random of places. I can't help but wonder how it came to be there. I've shared this with several friends and have asked what they thought. Funny, the theories people have when they consider the question.
One of my friends said..."Maybe it happens when two people in a car are arguing, and one of them pulls of their shoe to whap the other one with, and in the scuffle, it fell out of the window."
WHAT??? Do people really take off their shoes to hit somebody else with?
I'm still puzzled and entertained with the thoughts about how these lone shoes made it there. I wrote a haiku about it, it's one of my favorites. This is why it is ~ haiku 1
dear shoe in the road,
how the hell did you get there?
i often wonder.

I'm so thrilled I'm not the only one to ever wonder. I use to track them and came up with about 10-20 new shoes in the road every year just in my local area. I got busy, though, and grew bored of this hobby. I hope, someday, there is a Sherlock Holmes out there who will get to the bottom of this mystery.
